It’s Been a Week is my giant group text with the world. From mini-essays to creativity prompts to behind-the-scenes looks at my books, my posts ponder midlife, millennial culture, publishing, and more.

Oh, and my big promise is this: every post is readable in five minutes or less…because, who has time for more these days?

A little bit about me.

I’m a forty-something debut novelist, wife, mom, and embarrassingly predictable elder millennial. I type out my Substack posts (and books) from gorgeous Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

I’ve always been a writer – it’s just looked a little different throughout my life. From short stories when I was young to newspaper articles in my teens and college to blogging my way through four years abroad in Italy in my late 20s, I’ve always had a passion for sharing my thoughts with the world.

My book!

GRACIE HARRIS IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION launches into the world on July 29, 2025. It’s a meditation on grief, midlife, and reinvention wrapped in the pretty exterior of a beautiful romantic comedy. Gracie is a character that I hope sticks with you long after you read the last page.

In early 2023, the idea for what would become GRACIE came to me while on a walk. The story spent months percolating in my brain before I admitted to myself, “I should probably write this.” So I did. My characters guided me along the journey of what I think is a pretty great story.

For those familiar with publishing: I wrote the first draft between June and August, edited that draft for a few months, cold queried beginning in the fall, signed with my agent in February, and the book sold in late May. For those unfamiliar with publishing, this is a fast – and exciting – timeline for a debut novelist.

My second novel is tentatively slated for sometime in 2026.

What you need to know about subscriptions.

I relaunched my Substack in Spring 2025. All content is free for a short time for all subscribers so you can get a feel for what to expect. Beginning on September 1, I’ll pivot to free and paid tiers.

Paid subscribers will get:

  • A weekly It’s Been a Week newsletter

  • A monthly Creative Conversations interview

  • Twice monthly Made My Day posts full of my top faves and saves

  • Exclusive access to Behind the Scenes of my writing and books

  • First looks at book covers and events

  • Full archive

I’m sensitive to clogging up your inbox, so the Made My Day posts, behind the scenes, and other bonus content will exist on Substack so you can visit them at your leisure without being bombarded via email. I’ll link to them in the weekly newsletter, so you’ll get a reminder – but never more than one email a week.

Free subscribers get:

  • A monthly Creative Conversations interview via email

  • The first weekly email each month (paid subscribers get four).

Thanks for following along on this journey.
